Crowdfunding success for ‘smart toothbrush’ start-up

Technology

A healthtech start-up looking to disrupt the oral care and dental insurance markets with a revolutionary new product has successfully exceeded a £400,000 equity crowdfunding target.

Brushlink, the brainchild of award-winning dentist Dr Dev Patel, has developed a revolutionary device and associated smartphone app which transforms any toothbrush into a smart toothbrush.

The device attaches to all toothbrush types and links to the app via Bluetooth technology. The system provides users with real-time feedback on their brushing angulations and coaches them to improve their oral hygiene habits.

Patients are then rewarded with a brushing score after each session. Users who subscribe to the Brushlink Rewards plan or use certain dental insurance providers will also be eligible to receive financial rewards for accumulating points.

“The UK’s oral care market is ripe for disruption and has so much potential for innovation. I am… extremely excited to ensure that our product becomes a feature in every UK household as we set out to hit growth targets,” Dev Patel told BDaily.

“The concept is highly scalable and sits within a vast market and more importantly it is affordable. It’s not feasible for consumers to spend hundreds on ‘techy toothbrushes’. You don’t have to say goodbye to your old toothbrush to say hello to a better way of brushing!”

The London-based company launched a campaign on Seedrs to raise a minimum investment of £400,000, and has already exceeded the target by more than £50,000.

The proceeds of the equity crowdfunding round will be used to expand the operational Brushlink team, improving the efficiency of manufacturing, investing in strategic sales and marketing activity and launchind Brushlink Junior, a child-friendly range of devices.
