Graduate software engineers are securing roles with salaries upwards of £50k-£60k in London, according to a leading tech recruitment expert.

Sam Mikkelsen is the client solutions director at Oscar Technology, which has just been confirmed as the main sponsor for BusinessCloud’s ‘Tech Recruitment Timebomb’ in London on October 10.

Mikkelsen will be joining a stellar panel of speakers at the early evening event, which takes place at  etc.venues The Hatton, 51 – 53 Hatton Garden, London.

Mikkelsen said the widening skills gap was the biggest challenge facing the UK tech sector, with a chronic shortage of software engineers and developers.

Speaking to BusinessCloud he said: “We’re seeing a big spike in demand for software engineer skills and companies are willing to pay big money to secure the very best graduate talent. This is fuelled largely by the growing FinTech industry and a demand for artificial intelligence and automation skills across many businesses.

“It isn’t unheard of for strong software engineering graduates to come straight out of university and secure roles paying £50k to £60k.”

Oscar Technology, established in 2001, has long established relationships with London-based clients.

Mikkelsen said: “We’ve always supplied to clients in the South East and especially London. In January this year, we moved to the heart of the city, near St Paul’s Cathedral to be closer to our London-based clients, this helps massively that we can easily meet clients and candidates and that improves our overall service.

“We’re delighted to sponsor BusinessCloud’s ‘Tech Recruitment Timebomb’ event, which is already attracting a lot of interest.”
