Quality – not quantity – key to social media success

Businesses should not sacrifice quality and consistency when trying to be heard above the ‘noise’ on social media.

That is the view of Akeel Qureshi, founder of Function Media. He says non-relevant content is the biggest mistake people make on social media.

“Social media is crucial. Yesterday’s billboards are today’s social media placement,” he told BusinessCloud.

“Everything from ads to customer engagement are all fed one way or another by social media. Harnessing the power of our newfound interconnectedness has never been more important.

“People sacrifice quality for quantity trying to get above the ‘noise’; when they do break through and someone visits their account, what they have to say is off-topic or not relevant.

“You only get one chance at a first impression, and that impression is the sum of all your content, not just what stands out today.”

Function Media describes itself as an ‘Avengers ensemble’ agency with a global client base.

Qureshi cut his teeth in the start-up world having grown up in Silicon Valley and worked with start-ups across three continents.

He has multiple high-profile campaigns under his belt, including the $1m Global Teacher Prize and the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai.

He will be joined at the event by entrepreneur Rebecca Jane, who received 35,000 direct tweets in just 24 hours after appearing on Big Brother, and Lee McAteer, co-founder of £4.1m-turnover business Invasion Camp Group, among others.
