Security start-up Athena Risk is eyeing growth in the US with the opening of a new office in Tampa, Florida.

The Newcastle-based firm specialises in providing security risk management packages for businesses aiming to operate in other countries, through a smartphone app, Travel Guardian.

Its software co-ordinates a risk assessment of every country in the world as well as provide tips to users.

Director David Tait said: “Security has an instrumental part to play in the success of any business, and that ideology, in addition to the services that we specifically offer, transcend well in the United States.

“Companies are more concerned than ever about the movement of staff, environmental impact and keeping confidential information safe at all times and we can work with them to help them make carefully calculated decisions.“

Established by former servicemen Jason Hicks and Tait just over a year ago, Athena Risk also offers advice on a currency, access for corporate travellers and basic travel advice.

Paul Livingstone, business development manager at NOF Energy, added: “It’s great to see that supply chain companies can turn to a high-quality security company like Athena Risk, when seeking out potential global platforms.“
