Tech start-up Trade Chimp has opened a head office at Hull’s Centre for Digital Innovation.

Trade Chimp provides operational and administrative support to tradespeople and small trades businesses. The job management software package consisting of two parts: the main web app, designed for the owner or operator of the business, and a separate mobile app for staff.

It analyses invoices, receipts and timesheets to provide monthly business intelligence reports that show where profits are coming from, which workers are the most valuable to the business and which type of jobs are not performing.

“C4DI offers excellent, high-quality office facilities at the heart of an incredibly innovative and tech-savvy environment,” said marketing director Zoe Overment.

“We’re surrounded by other similar-minded businesses who will be able to support our development in a space that gives us an ideal base from which to grow.”

The start-up launched in September last year and is looking to hire two members of staff, in sales and marketing.

“Although we are a relatively small start-up, we are ambitious and have a lot in the pipeline. We are targeting a very specific market and a particular type of end user,” said managing director Sam Overment.

“We want to build the business up in a sustainable way and appoint employees who will buy-in to the Trade Chimp ethos of great customer service that supports a high-quality product.”

John Connolly, managing director at C4DI, said: “Trade Chimp is a forward-thinking, innovative company and an ideal fit for C4DI which has proven to be a fertile breeding ground for tech start-ups.

“The directors have a crystal clear vision of where they want to take the company and which all of us here are keen to support the best we can.”

This announcement follows on from Trade Chimp forming a business development tie-up with software development specialist Arc Studios, also based at C4DI.

The joint venture product development deal will see hundreds of thousands of pounds invested into Trade Chimp over the coming years.

The agreement between the two Hull-based companies saw Arc Studios, which built the bespoke software and user-friendly Trade Chimp app, take an undisclosed equity stake in the company.

Arc Studios is providing ongoing support to the app, such as integration add-ons so that users can link up their Trade Chimp system with their preferred accounting package.

Trade Chimp is suitable for trades business with up to 10 staff, including electricians, plumbers and gas fitters.
