A Scottish catering company has announced plans for a major expansion in the US following £575,000 investment.

Glasgow-based Spoonfed offers a SaaS platform which creates real efficiencies for caterers and provides a straightforward ordering system.

The funding, from Equity Gap, will see the firm increase its 11 employees to 20 by the end of the year.

The company also plans to open a second office and introduce more staff in the US, where a Denver base will be established.

“2018 was a great year for Spoonfed, with monthly revenues increasing by more than 140 per cent,” said Spoonfed’s co-founder and MD, Willie Biggart.

“An increase of 300 per cent in set up fees in the final quarter of 2018 indicates that this growth will accelerate in 2019.”

Its customers include contract caterers Elior, Aramark, CH&Co and BaxterStorey.

In the US, Boston chain Flour Bakery, Paul USA, Zuckers Bagels and Maison Kayser in New York have signed up.

In 2018, Spoonfed increased their customer footprint to include France, Belgium and Holland following the launch of French and Netherlands language versions.
