A tech entrepreneur has called for details of the UK’s 5G infrastructure plans when the Budget is announced on Wednesday.

The CEO of LDeX Group, one of the UK’s fastest-growing tech companies, said that connectivity is crucial to the future of the economy.

Rob Garbutt said: “The Government understands the importance of providing businesses with stronger connectivity.

“The implementation of next generation connectivity is crucial for businesses and the wider economy to thrive and it is encouraging that the Government is taking steps to address this.

“After dedicating £1 billion to bringing 5G and new fibre broadband into wider use across the UK in the Autumn Statement, we’d like to hear more details about the dedicated 5G strategy that ministers are currently drawing up.”

London-based LDeX Group runs data centres and was ranked in the Deloitte Fast 50 Tech track as one of the UK’s fastest growing companies in both 2014 and 2015.

Owners Rob Garbutt and Patrick Doyle founded the company in London in 2013 after selling Manchester-based UK Grid Group to Telecity Group in September 2011.

Meanwhile Hello Soda CEO James Blake has called on the Government to use Wednesday’s Budget to shore up the Northern Powerhouse initiative as Brexit looms.
