Household bills app expands with Manchester office

London-based technology company WonderBill has chosen Manchester as a hub for technology talent.

WonderBill is an app that helps consumers manage their household bills and is backed by Shell Ventures and BCG Digital Ventures.

The start-up, which launched in 2016, is headquartered in Canary Wharf and already has a team of more than 50 employees.

It has opened a new Manchester office in Spinningfields and one fifth of its team is now based in the city.

“The business is in a time of exponential growth and our next move is critical to our continued success,” said VP of engineering Gary Higham.

“Manchester has an extensive talent pool for skilled software engineers and developers, so it’s clear to see why it’s a prime location for us to start expanding our WonderBill development team.”

WonderBill said the regional expansion was driven by a spike in consumer demand as more Brits strive to take control of their household finances.

The start-up described Manchester as “the perfect location” to support its expansion.

Higham added: “We are actively looking for ambitious candidates for our new office location as we look to enhance our app’s functionality and meet the growing demand of bill-savvy consumers.”

The WonderBill app allows users to manage their household bills and subscription services, but also enables them to switch energy tariffs, mobile and broadband plans and insurance providers.

The company’s technology analyses a user’s bill data to make personalised switch suggestions based on actual usage.
