Publisher Johnston Press is working with Vodafone UK to transform its technology infrastructure as it evolves its digital publishing strategy.

The media company behind national newspaper i, The Yorkshire Post and The Scotsman is rolling out ‘Newsroom of the Future’ and ‘Salesforce of the Future’ across its national and regional news outlets.

They will allow reporters and field sales teams to work in any location, at any time, with access to the online services and digital platforms they need.

As part of this initiative, Johnston Press is trialling the use of live streaming to relay news stories via smartphones to its online media outlets and looking at new ways to enhance the advertising experience.

Vodafone is providing data centre, workforce mobility and network services to support the delivery.

“Digital is core to our business strategy and how we engage with our customers and communities,” said Lee Whitworth, head of enterprise technology at Johnston Press.

“Working with Vodafone, we have been able to increase the agility and capabilities of our technology and communications infrastructure, as we evolve the way we work.

“It’s great to have them as our technology partner and have access to their expertise and technology foresight as we continue to innovate.”

Phil Mottram, enterprise director at Vodafone UK, said: “Cloud, mobile and enhanced connectivity offer organisations a great opportunity to rethink the way they work if delivered in harmony with strategic business goals.

“This enables customers to move to new operational models, tap into new market opportunities and be more responsive and adaptable to change.

“We are pleased to be working with Johnston Press as part of its team to deliver value to its business, staff and customers and help advance its digital services.”
