Leading audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has partnered with Sunderland Software City to make it easier for businesses to access the advice they need to scale up and compete globally.

The new partnership is designed to provide support and guidance to the region’s growing technology sector.

Sunderland Software City (SSC) offers business support and skills training to help tech businesses of all sizes in the North East start and grow.

As a partner, RSM will draw on extensive experience working with tech businesses to deliver strategic accountancy and business advisory services ranging from tax, financial reporting and funding options, to transactions, fraud and key consultancy support – helping to improve profitability, mitigate risk and enable growth.

“It’s an exciting time for the tech sector in the North East, having seen a 78 per cent uplift in start-ups in the last year,” said RSM partner Richard Urron.

“Entrepreneurs are attracted to the North East due to a combination of the region’s universities playing a key role in developing and nurturing talent, an increase in access to finance following the launch of the North East Fund and a strong, growing tech ecosystem.

“It’s great to be working with Sunderland Software City. It brings together a range of public, private and educational sectors and through regional collaboration we can spearhead growth and encourage inward investment to deliver a sustainable outlook for the software industry in the region.

“We look forward to helping facilitate further growth in the sector as part of our partnership.”

Jeni Banks, business support specialist at SSC, said: “RSM works with businesses looking to scale-up on a day-to-day basis, so it is a perfect fit to support local ambitious firms as they grow.

“They not only have the expertise and capabilities to offer a range of services, but RSM has the scale to help businesses across the UK or internationally to support each step of the business lifecycle.

“We believe this partnership will complement our existing suite of business support services – ultimately providing more opportunities for tech start-ups to access specialist advice at the point that they need it.”
