Thalamus is a privately owned artificial intelligence company based at the University of Birmingham which works across a variety of sectors including health and education.

Founded in January 2017 by Jeremy Walker, Nicole Chalmers and Charles Care, its joint ventures include Kaido (health insights), Reachora (medical content analysis) and Redbrick Bills (energy predictions).

Last year it was awarded a government grant to develop an AI system to assist doctors during diagnostic heart surgery, which it estimates will save approximately 7,000 lives per year and improve the outcomes of a further 140,000.
