Event and ticketing platform TickX has appointed a new chairman in the form of Rentalcars.com co-founder Laurence Marlor.

Founded in 2015 by Steve Pearce and Sam Coley, AI-powered ticket search engine TickX allows its users to search and compare prices on over 100 ticket selling platforms including Ticketmaster, Skiddle and Eventbrite.

Its founders, who appeared on Dragon’s Den last year, have made the new hire to guide the team in its effort to become a globally recognised destination to search and buy tickets.

Marlor, previously co-founder and CMO of Rentalcars.com, became a non-Executive Director at Goldcar, contributing to its acquisition by Europcar for over £500m.

He is also a non-executive director at Sykes Cottages, which was acquired last week by Skyscanner and JustEat backer Vitruvian Partners.

Rentalcars.com was acquired by booking.com owner Booking Holdings, in 2010.

On the appointment, TickX CEO Steve Pearce said: “We are delighted to welcome Laurence as our new chairman. His vast experience building some of the world’s largest consumer-facing brands in the travel industry will be invaluable as we step up our international growth.

“The travel market shares a lot of characteristics with our industry, so Laurence’s expertise and guidance gives us a significant boost as we drive towards becoming the global go-to destination to search and book entertainment tickets.”

Marlor added said: “TickX represents an amazing opportunity for me to work with Steve, Sam and their very talented team to help them fulfil their vision to be the premier global platform for entertainment tickets.”

Last year Manchester-based TickX was named as one of BusinessCloud ‘North West 251’, and has raised a total of £3.9m in funding over three rounds with backers in its latest round including Ministry of Sound and Business Growth Fund.
