UKFast accepts Bitesize Battlefield Challenge

Hosting and cloud firm UKFast is helping kids in the North West get fit and active through its sponsorship of the Bitesize Battlefield Challenge in aid of The Rainbow Trust.

The two-day event in early November sees up to 2,000 children take on a Halloween-themed, muddy obstacle course to raise money for the children’s charity.

“Exercise and physical activity in childhood is so important to build a strong foundation for adult life,” said UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones MBE.

“Seeing the kids in action at the launch event showed just how essential activities like this are for confidence building and social skills. It was amazing to watch.

“The team at UKFast is excited to volunteer and support the event on the day alongside our sponsorship. It’s the perfect way to encourage kids to get away from screens and get active.”

According to a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Britain has the highest obesity rates in Western Europe, with one in five children starting primary school overweight or obese.

The event is led by Ruth McShane, founder and director of children’s fitness coach business Bitesize Bootcamp.

“It’s essential to get children active in ways that grab their attention,” she said.

“Bitesize Bootcamp and Bitesize Battlefield are such great fun that kids don’t realise they’re even exercising!

“I’ve seen the results first-hand: when I started my first early-morning exercise club in schools, I found that the fun and energetic sessions were full. The children came early to sessions, parents were earlier for work, we had huge amounts of fun and the children started their day enthused and happy.

“Through the Battlefield Challenge last year we helped to raise £8,000. This year, with support from amazing businesses like UKFast, we’re hoping to top that, with all fundraising going to The Rainbow Trust which supports terminally ill children in the North West.”

The challenge has more than 20 obstacles, hay bales and monkey bars, as well as slime and plenty of mud.

This year’s Bitesize Battlefield Challenge is on 3rd and 4th November at Ashton on Mersey School in Sale.
