A Stockport-based ID card firm will create 40 new jobs after being acquired by an American competitor.

Digital ID Group has been acquired by Oregon-based AlphaCard System which now employs 360 staff in offices located in 11 cities around the globe.

“The opportunity to join forces with AlphaCard Systems was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down,” said Jonathan Fell, managing director of Digital ID Group.

“AlphaCard has an excellent reputation in the industry, an impressive team of staff and a fantastic client base.”

Founded in 1998, the American company is the largest ID card company in the US, specialising in the supply of photo ID card printers, consumables and ID software.

“Alphacard has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, fuelled by the launch of a new and innovative line of ID Card Printers, the AlphaCard PRO series,” added Todd Muscato, senior vice president of AlphaCard Systems.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work and talented people to achieve the results we’ve seen in the US, and we are thrilled to be in a position to expand our brand globally.

“Myself and the team look forward to working with the team at Digital ID and the benefits we will experience from working alongside their ambitious and fast-growing organisation.”

Digital ID, which was founded in 1990, also has offices in London, Gothenburg and Amersterdam.
